How PlainClimate Search Works

The search tool on this page lets you look up any of the 6,915 U.S. cities and weather stations in the PlainClimate dataset by name or state. We index every city at build time so typical queries return instantly. Matching is tolerant of partial input and common misspellings, you can type a city name, a state, or just the first few letters. If you get no results, try broadening the query or checking the spelling.

Every search queries our database of NOAA U.S. Climate Normals (1991-2020), the same 30-year baseline meteorologists use. We refresh the underlying data when NOAA publishes new releases, check the methodology page for the current data vintage, and we do not modify the source figures, only normalize city-name formatting (title case, trimmed whitespace, standardized state codes) so that results are consistent across stations with slightly different NOAA naming conventions. Results link directly to the full city page, where you will see the complete climate normals plus plain-language explainers for what each metric means.

Responsible Use of Search Results

Climate normals are 30-year statistical averages, not a forecast or a guarantee of any specific day's weather. A city's normals can also reflect a single weather station that may not represent every neighborhood or microclimate within a larger metro area. Before making a consequential relocation or travel decision based on climate, cross-reference our figures against a source like the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information. PlainClimate does not offer personalized relocation, travel, or financial advice, and does not rank or endorse individual cities beyond what the data shows.

Search Privacy

Your search queries are processed server-side and are not attached to any account. We log aggregate query patterns (term frequencies, not individual queries tied to a person) for the sole purpose of improving the search index and identifying cities visitors look for but can't find. We never sell, share, or resell search logs. If you would like your query logs disregarded entirely, enable private browsing or a tracker-blocker, we respect these settings.
