PlainClimate tool
Find locations that fit your climate limits
Set a January average low, July average high, and annual rain and snow limit. The finder checks named station-mapped records from NOAA's 1991-2020 climate normals. Results include municipalities and other named station locations; this is not a municipal directory, forecast, or relocation recommendation.

How the finder works
PlainClimate joins each named location to its January, July, and annual normal record. All four selected limits are hard filters. Rows with a missing value are left out. Qualifying records use the display order you select. The optional Comfort Score order is derived by PlainClimate; the score does not determine whether a record qualifies.
The source is NOAA NCEI's 1991-2020 U.S. Climate Normals. These are 30-year averages, not current conditions or future projections.
Frequently asked questions
What does the Climate Location Finder measure? ▼
It filters named station-mapped location records using four NOAA 1991-2020 climate normals: January average low temperature, July average high temperature, annual snowfall, and annual precipitation. It does not use a weather forecast or predict future conditions.
Why are some places missing from the results? ▼
A location record is excluded when any selected measurement is missing or falls outside a limit. PlainClimate does not estimate a missing value to make a record qualify.
How are matching locations ordered? ▼
You choose the display order. The default is state and location name; other choices use one displayed climate measurement or the PlainClimate Comfort Score. The Comfort Score is a derived comparison aid, not an official NOAA ranking.
Is every result an incorporated city? ▼
No. NOAA normals are station-based, and the source labels include municipalities as well as named stations, airports, campuses, refuges, and other places. PlainClimate maps each station-derived record to a named location page without asserting municipal status.

The finder applies the four displayed limits to complete January, July, and annual-normal records; source labels are station-mapped named locations, and missing values are not estimated. No figure on this page is typed in by an editor - each value is rendered from NOAA 1991-2020 U.S. Climate Normals.
